‘Coo Coo’ (Grimley She Wrote Remix) is the first re-work from ‘Energetic Mind’ – the debut Bonniesongs record which was released in September by Small Pond. The original version of ‘Coo Coo’ garnered support from Lauren Laverne (BBC 6Music), selecting the track for her 'While You Were Sleeping' section which spotlights a new artist, whilst the album was hailed by the likes of The Line of Best Fit, Paste Magazine and Nialler 9 for its diversity.
Australian producer Grimley She Wrote gained an affinity to the song early on, noting “there was something hypnotic about that vocal riff in ‘Coo Coo’ that just had me from the first listen.” Melding keys with electronic samples and swelling synths, Grimley She Wrote has retained the hypnotic quality of the original whilst taking the track in a new direction: “The thing about good music is that it has depth to be changed up and reinterpreted in many ways, so I took this riff and turned it into a little electronic-meets-keys-number, which was heaps of fun to make (and hopefully fun to listen to!)”
The track will feature on the ‘Energetic Mind: Remixes’ EP, due for release in early 2020.
